Provide social services to assist in the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders in custody, on probation or parole. Incumbents recommend actions, including rehabilitation plans, treatment, conditional release and education/employment stipulations.
Responsibilities- Initiate contact with youth, family, victims, and law enforcement; conduct home and school visits.
- Obtain and review collateral information (abuse, neglect, education, mental health, substance use, gang activity, etc.).
- Conduct and document FDJJ screening(s) to identify risk and needs.
- Formulate case management strategies based on assessments.
- Make service referrals and follow up on actions.
- Make supervision and treatment recommendations to the State Attorney and judicial partners.
- Complete screening instruments and required reports (e.g., DRAI, SRSI, case plans, pre‑post disposition, attendance reports).
- Represent DJJ in court hearings, prepare reports and affidavits, testify when required.
- Conduct risk and needs assessments for all supervised youth.
- Maintain communication with youth, family, and community across various settings and hours.
- Assist youth with mental health evaluations, testing, treatment, school enrollment and attendance verification.
- Provide crisis intervention and referrals.
- Help youth establish personal goals and provide ongoing support.
- Discuss projected completion time frames and termination of supervision with youth and family.
- Respond to concerns, staffing cases, and plan for transition and exit from residential programs.
- Enter case management activities into JJIS and upload required forms.
- Collaborate with community resources and provide input to court management.
- Participate in professional development trainings and meetings.
- Follow all departmental policies, procedures, and administrative rules.
- Knowledge of case‑management practices, interviewing and counseling techniques.
- Knowledge of computer programs.
- Ability to make recommendations on processing delinquent youth.
- Ability to develop case plans and communicate effectively.
- Ability to determine work priorities.
- Ability to establish working relationships with community and judicial partners.
- Independent decision‑making and strong verbal/written communication.
- Four years of experience working with adolescents in criminal justice, social services, or education.
- Valid driver’s license.
- University degree (bachelor’s or higher) or associate degree with two years of relevant experience.
- Certification as State of Florida Juvenile Probation Officer.
- Experience volunteering or interning with DJJ or a social‑service agency.
- Background in social sciences, social work, sociology, psychology, or similar disciplines.
- Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications throughout employment.
- Position may require non‑traditional hours, including weekends and evenings.
- All candidates subject to sex‑offender check, criminal background checks and drug screening.
- Participation in E‑Verify.
- Driver’s license requirements and driving record expectations as detailed by FDJJ Policy 1920.
- Certification in State of Florida Department of Juvenile Justice direct‑care training policy within 180 days of employment.
- Successful candidates must complete the mandatory residential training academy in Quincy, Florida.
- Non‑resident applicants must obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
- Successful candidates must pass the Ergometric IMPACT Assessment and Training Test if not already in the state system as a direct‑care worker.
- Must be at least 19 years old.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- No felony or misdemeanor involving perjury, false statement, or dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces.
- Compliance with fingerprinting and background investigations as per s. 985.644 (1).
- Affidavit of application attesting to compliance with sub‑paragraphs 1‑4.
