Position: JUVENILE INTERVENTION SPECIALIST

Overview

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office is now accepting applications for the position of JUVENILE INTERVENTION SPECIALIST
.

The Juvenile Intervention Specialist works in the daily supervision of juveniles assigned to the Eugene Gregory Memorial Youth Academy, Consequence Alternative Sanctions Unit and the Sheriff's Work Ethic and Training (S.W.E.A.T.) program under the Juvenile Justice Division.

Responsibilities
  • Provides direct supervision to juveniles assigned to the SWEAT and Consequence Alternative for Youth (CASU) Program. Performs contraband searches of juveniles as needed
  • Conduct daily intake (search and seizure) on all youth that enter the building for the Eugene Gregory Memorial Youth Academy (EGMYA). This includes youth that are enrolled in the GED program and youth that are brought into the STAY center for being truant
  • Conduct Urinalysis as requested by a Juvenile Probation Officer or Supervisor
  • Supervises and instructs juveniles in the work to be assigned and ensures work is being properly performed to standards
  • Provides transportation for juveniles to and from work sites
  • Provide behavior management intervention for juveniles assigned to EGMYA by intervening when necessary to permit the uninterrupted delivery of educational services by the School Board staff
  • Prepares various specialized and statistical reports as required
  • Ensures the cleanliness of the area of assigned responsibility
  • Supervises and interacts with juveniles, male and female, to build rapport and provide positive guidance
  • Communicates effectively and coherently with JIS staff, law enforcement, and SCPS staff using existing communication systems. Demonstrate communication skills in formal settings as required
  • Perform de-escalation functions to include recognizing abnormal behavior and taking appropriate action
  • Performs other duties as required or as may be necessary for the efficient and effective performance of the position functions
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED;
    Associate s Degree preferred
  • One (1) year responsible work experience, which involves law enforcement related duties or dealing with youth preferred
  • Consideration may be given to equivalent combination of related training, education and experience
  • Must be able to complete PAR curriculum within six (6) months of employment or assignment to this position
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver s License
Additional Requirements

Regular and prompt attendance is mandatory in the performance of an employee s duties for this position, to include scheduled work hours, and required training activities, calls for mandatory overtime needs and calls for service during times of an emergency.

Knowledge of Sheriff s Office rules and regulations as applied to the juvenile population in which we serve. Ability to demonstrate ethical and professional behavior; analyze information or situations; synthesize information and/or circumstances; solve problems independently; recall facts and/or information; describe persons, things and/or events; read and comprehend information; show courtesy; speak clearly; prepare written reports. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe and efficient manner with passengers.

Ability to operate heavy machinery i.e. (pressure washer, lawn mowers, gas powered equipment, etc) Ability to work independently without constant supervision. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
