Job Overview

The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is seeking a self‑motivated, hardworking Senior Community Health Nurse to provide clinical services across multiple programs in Sanford, FL.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide nursing services in the general clinic for Family Planning, Sexually Transmitted Infections, Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, Immunizations, Epidemiology, Hepatitis, Tuberculosis, Refugee Health, School Health and HIV client services.
  • Administer medications, immunizations and other treatments as ordered by clinicians, following CDC immunization schedules.
  • Perform quality assurance activities: periodic chart reviews, daily medication inventory, follow‑up on client lab results, communication of findings to clients.
  • Coordinate infectious disease testing for clients and collaborate with other clinical team members to process and ship specimens.
  • Conduct client interviews, review laboratory results, provide nursing education, and complete Superbill for billing.
  • Complete electronic documentation in the Health Management System (HMS) and Florida Shots.
  • Review immunization records for missing doses and issue required forms for school, college, employment, refugee, or travel purposes.
  • Assist with orientation and training for new nursing and clerical staff.
  • Participate in quality assurance, improvement activities, health fairs and community events.
  • Respond to natural and other disasters and work in special needs or Red Cross shelters.
  • Work before, during or beyond normal hours for emergency duty, including in‑state and out‑of‑state deployment.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Adolescent prevention program operations and nursing principles for specialized areas.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Publisher, Excel).
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments; communicate effectively.
  • Capability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; work independently.
  • Knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to operational and management activities.
  • Ability to conduct fact‑finding research, solve problems and make decisions.
  • Knowledge of community resources and organizations.
  • Skill in applying nursing theory in specialized areas.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid state of Florida Registered Nursing License or a multi‑state RN License from another compact state in good standing with no complaints filed through the Florida Board of Nursing.
  • Willingness to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours in the event of an emergency.
  • Acceptance of background check and/or drug screening; provision of Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Acceptance of Form I‑9 completion and verification through E‑Verify.
  • Knowledge that all applicants must be able to learn and communicate effectively in English.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct patient care experience within the last 2 years.
  • Verifiable experience working with Immunizations, Family Planning, STD, HIV/AIDS, School Health, TB/Refugee Health programs.
  • Experience using electronic health record computer programs.
