$13,950 Annual Paramedic Incentive Pay (in addition to base salary) – Employees that are currently certified by the State of Florida as Paramedics will receive one half of the paramedic incentive. Once the employee has been cleared to practice within Seminole County by the Medical Director the employee will then receive the remaining half of the paramedic incentive.
Under general direction, performs highly responsible work involving the prevention and suppression of fires, and highly skilled lifesaving and technical emergency medical services work in the field. The employee is responsible for responding to emergency situations and assisting in the control and resolution of the situation. Work includes commanding emergency scenes until relieved by a superior and assisting with in-service training programs for entry level personnel.
The employee works within the scope of established Fire Department rules, regulations and procedures, however, is expected to exercise considerable judgment and initiative, in emergency situations. Objective is to prevent and minimize injury and/or the loss of life and property in emergency and fire situations. Performs related work as directed.
- Responds to fire alarms in the City and emergency medical calls.
- Suppresses and extinguishes fires; follows all proper fire equipment and extinguishing procedures; calculates proper fire hose pressures; monitors fire suppression and rescue equipment.
- Controls emergency medical activities in the absence of a superior.
- Rescues victims from fire, vehicles, drowning, accidents and other harmful conditions; performs duties in compliance with all life saving policies and procedures as they apply to the Paramedic.
- Administers first-aid to injured or afflicted persons; stabilizes patients for transport; performs Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); administers spinal and cervical immobilization; verifies vital signs; evaluates patient status.
- Stabilizes patients; follows State rules, regulations and service Medical Director's standards for Paramedic level medical care.
- Provides medical treatment, e.g., medication, fluid administration, intubation, electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring, defibrillation and external pacemaker.
- Performs salvage operations after emergency situation is controlled and/or suppressed.
- Drives, operates and inspects Fire Department vehicles; operates, utilizes and maintains Fire Department equipment and gear; operates, tests and maintains pumps and hydrants. Upon successful completion of rescue training hours, non-emergency driving, and the ability to operate the engine an employee is eligible for Engineer Incentive Pay.
- Performs custodial duties at the station; cleans and maintains Fire Station facilities and equipment; inspects fire equipment for necessary repairs.
- Prepares and submits routine records and reports.
- Participates in public education and community outreach programs.
- Attends continuing education programs in fire fighting and first aid.
Additional Position Functions – Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Current and valid Florida Firefighters II Certification, equivalent, or proof of passing the course.
- Current and valid Florida Paramedic Certification.
- Current and valid CPR Certification.
- Current and valid Florida Driver's License.
- Must possess a current CPAT passing score attained within one year prior to the closing date of this job posting #25-00141.
- Must possess a current Fire Team passing score attained within one year prior to the closing date of this posting #25-00141.
- Considerable knowledge of current principles and practices of fire rescue and Paramedic work, governing laws, ordinances, policies and procedures.
- Considerable knowledge of pre-established City, County and State policies and procedures applicable to the work.
- Skill in safe First Aid methods, procedures and practices.
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
