- Assist parents in understanding their children's abilities and disabilities using appropriate assessment tools and goal development. (Essential)
- Stay current with clinical, theoretical, and educational research as well as state and federal regulations for visually-impaired programs. (Essential)
- Provide in-service education about programs for the visually impaired to district personnel and parents. (Essential)
- Attend staff meetings and in-services as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Special education programs for visually-impaired students.
- Methods and strategies for assessing and teaching visually-impaired students from birth through age 21.
- Current special education laws, regulations, and case law.
- Braille instruction.
Ability to:
- Work effectively with visually-impaired students.
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and related agencies.
- Plan teaching strategies and set appropriate objectives to enhance access to the core curriculum and meet state standards.
- Analyze and evaluate assessments and diagnostic information.
- Express ideas effectively both verbally and in writing, including writing summaries, evaluations, and reports.
- Design and conduct in-service training for district staff and parents.
- Explore, develop, and implement public and community program options.
