The recent merger by the City of Sanford will significantly expand our reach and influence in the industry. The WFOI will work with City of Sanford, Pittsboro, Siler City, and Chatham County customers to perform the following duties:
Key Responsibilities- Operating a water filtration plant; performing general plant and grounds maintenance tasks; maintaining records and logs.
- Making tours of plant and checking engines, generators, pumps, aerators, tanks, filters, chlorinators, chemical feeders, and other equipment for proper functioning.
- Documenting amount of water treated, amount of chemicals used and recording chemical pump dial settings; calibrating equipment as needed.
- Collecting water samples; performing tests such as pH, alkalinity, turbidity, etc., and completing lab analysis of treated and untreated water to ensure quality; making chemical and other adjustments as needed.
- Recording readings from meters and instruments; maintaining various records and logs on plant operations.
- Regulating and adjusting motors, pumps, blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions; back washing filters to ensure plant sludge collection systems are operating properly.
- Performing minor maintenance and lubrication on equipment.
- Performing general custodial and grounds maintenance work.
- Performing related work as required.
We are looking for a detailed individual with some knowledge of the operating characteristics and maintenance requirements of a water filtration treatment plant; some knowledge of hydraulic, chemical and mechanical principles pertinent to water reclamation treatment plant operations; some knowledge of State rules and regulations governing water filtration; some knowledge in maintaining documentation and records; some knowledge in the use of standard office equipment and associated software;
ability to make arithmetic computations; ability to compute rates, ratios and percentages; some knowledge of the occupational hazards of the work, and the necessary safety precautions; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to read meters and charts accurately; some skill in the use and care of hand tools; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.
The position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and minimal experience in the operation and maintenance of machinery and equipment. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license upon hire. Obtain a North Carolina “C” Surface Water Treatment Operator certification within 18 months of employment. Must meet and maintain all certification, license and training requirements for position.
