Position: Student Success Specialist I

Job Summary

Student Success Specialist I is the point of contact to current and prospective students on a wide range of services across all programs and courses offered by the College. Provides information and appropriate services throughout the enrollment process, including admissions, placement testing, applying for financial aid, advising, and registration.

Responsibilities
  • Provides academic advisement services to all students: plans educational goals, reviews programs and requirements, selects coursework, and reviews graduation requirements.
  • Advises students on application process: transcript requirements, residency verification, financial aid process (FAFSA submittal, verification documents, sources of aid), acceptance, deferment, and tuition payment.
  • Analyzes departmental or functional requirements to enable students to assume increasing self‑reliance in re‑enrollment.
  • Provides feedback of departmental gaps and operational procedures impacting the student experience from initial contact through re‑enrollment and graduation.
  • Assists students and campus visitors with college programs and services.
  • Determines acceptability of all documents required for admission and enrollment.
  • Interprets college assessments to students following established standards and protocols and explains placement in academic programs and courses.
  • Supports students in completing steps to enroll and supports College enrollment management goals through job duties and participation in College events such as Decision Days and College Nights.
  • Refers students to academic departments, tutoring services, counseling, services for students with disabilities, veteran’s affairs, career development, and other support services.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • One year of experience working with students in an educational setting or related experience.
Knowledge, Abilities & Skills
  • Knowledge of college enrollment functions (admissions, placement testing, advising, financial aid applications).
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills and knowledge of enterprise‑wide student information systems.
  • Ability to work well in a highly collaborative and team‑oriented environment.
  • Strong service excellence skills and ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Excellent problem‑solving and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and fast‑paced environment, exercising good judgment and discretion without close supervision.
  • Ability to use multiple modes of contact to serve the needs of students (face‑to‑face, electronic, telephone).
  • Clear understanding and commitment to diversity, equity, and cultural competence.
Work Environment & Special Considerations
  • Works in an office environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including some nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel between campuses.
Compensation & Benefits

Pay: $21.00 hourly, up to 26 hours per week.

Conditions of Employment

Finalists and individuals recommended for employment must reside in the State of Florida at the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64 and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020. Background checks may include criminal background, credit check, driver’s license check, previous employment and references.

Eligibility

Veteran’s Preference is afforded to eligible candidates. To claim preference, upload DD‑214 form or Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty.
