Overview

WCF Insurance, an "A" rated carrier growing throughout the western states, has an immediate opening for a Underwriter on the Small Business team at our Sandy, Utah headquarters, or our Boisie, Idaho office. This full-time, exempt position reports to the Manager of Underwriting and offers the opportunity for hybrid work (Tuesday through Thursday in-office). We are looking for someone who embodies WCF's core values: doing the right thing, being great at your job, and helping others succeed.

Expected salary for the position is $70,000 to $87,000 annually depending upon experience and education.

We are also open to considering candidates for an Associate or Senior Underwriter position depending on experience.

Responsibilities

An underwriter applies quantitative and qualitative analysis along with sound underwriting principals to evaluate new and renewal account risks. The incumbent manages a book of business for growth, profitability, and retention. The underwriter initiates and handles agent relationships through service calls and occasional in-person visits. The person in this position provides a thorough, documented risk analysis on new and renewal accounts leading to a recommendation on coverage terms and premium.

Qualifications
  • At least two years of underwriting or similar insurance experience.
  • Multiline underwriting experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of NCCI and state bureau manuals, rules and classifications.
  • Experience with loss sensitive rating programs.
  • CPCU, ARM, CIC or similar certifications preferred.
  • Expert skills in Microsoft Office Suite, excel experience required.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, verbal and written.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, analytical skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, marketing, business, or equivalent experience preferred.

An internal candidate should have six months in their current position, acceptable job performance, and must notify their current supervisor that they have applied for the position.
