We are seeking a skilled Property Development Accountant to join our team and assist in managing the day-to-day accounting and administrative operations for a portfolio of multi-family real estate development projects. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accountant will play a key role in maintaining a professional, fun, collaborative work environment that aligns with our core values of customer service, respect, and collegiality within the finance team.
This role ensures full compliance with regulatory requirements while adhering to company policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with project developers and internal stakeholders, providing accurate, timely insights and analysis on development projects and associated budgets.
- Prepare and enter all project job cost and journal entries to ensure accurate representation of financial activity, maintaining budget cost categories and ledger accounts.
- Prepare monthly and periodic funding requisition packages for submission to lenders and investors.
- Manage cash flow and oversee financial operations of each development project, including contractor payments, processing of wires and transfers, collection of fees, loan disbursements, and equity contributions.
- Oversee the general ledger accounting for entities linked to development projects.
- Respond to inquiries from third parties, including partners, lenders, investors, vendors, housing authorities, and governmental agencies.
- Prepare periodic and year-end work papers and documentation for external auditors to facilitate cost certifications, tax returns, and audit preparation.
- Lead, mentor, and train colleagues, addressing their concerns and providing effective solutions and resources.
- Present financial reports, issues, and analysis to management periodically.
- Take on special projects and assignments as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- General Ledger Accounting experience required at the Staff or Senior level
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in real estate and/or construction project cost accounting is preferred.
- Development Accounting and Cost Tracking experience
- Extensive experience with general ledger and job cost accounting software systems.
- Proficiency in MS Excel.

Compensation: $35 - 40/hour ($70,000 to $85,000 annually once it converts and potentially can flex higher)
Pay is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
