Job Summary
Physician Assistant (PA) – PRN.
Location:
Sandpoint, Idaho. STGi is seeking a PA to provide outpatient primary care services at our community-based outpatient clinic.
- Provide primary and preventive medical care within the scope of CPT codes and within training.
- Perform urgent and emergent evaluation of episodic and chronic problems.
- Deliver comprehensive, integrated primary health care addressing most client needs.
- Assess, treat, and evaluate a comprehensive range of health problems, including emergency procedures, preventive health, prescribing medications, ordering and interpreting labs and diagnostic tests, patient education.
- Maintain knowledge of current practice, mentor other PA’s, advocate client, participate in professional activities.
- Work closely with the Patient Aliened Care Team (PACT) and support staff in daily huddles.
- Emphasize wellness, prevention, early detection.
- Supervise support staff in care delivery.
- Maintain universal precautions and infection control practices.
- Provide smooth and timely patient flow per VA access standards and triage protocol.
- Perform CPR and assist during respiratory and cardiac arrest procedures.
- Investigate health problems by gathering and assessing historical information.
- Perform physical examinations appropriate to patient history.
- Diagnose health problems based on interpretation of patient history, physical exam findings, and diagnostic test results.
- Develop treatment plan tailored to patient needs, including health education, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment.
- Prescribe medications as appropriate.
- Evaluate treatment results, modify plan as needed to achieve goals.
- Make referrals for specialty evaluation or treatment.
- Direct and coordinate primary care services for walk-in patients.
- Provide model for clinical practice within clinic setting.
- Set up and operate therapeutic and emergency equipment (monitor, ECG, oxygen, AED, suction).
- Obtain patient history on new and follow-up, record findings per VA standards.
- Perform initial and periodic physical examinations within privileges and record findings.
- Order diagnostic tests per chief complaint and physical findings.
- Demonstrate pharmacology knowledge.
- Prescribe and administer medication within limits of privileges.
- Recommend and follow up on laboratory tests and specialized diagnostic procedures as necessary.
- Document all pertinent patient information in VISTA to demonstrate quality care delivery.
- Keep VISTA clinic reminder tracking system current for each enrolled patient.
- Close patient charts within 24–72 hours of encounter and place Return to Clinic orders promptly.
- Assist in scheduling initial and follow-up appointments per VA access standards.
- Keep patients informed of plan of care, including lab and diagnostic results.
- Provide health educational materials, resources and education to patients and families.
- Assist RN to ensure complete and accurate electronic encounter documentation.
- Comply with all federal, state, local, Joint Commission, OSHA, VA and subcontractor safety and operational regulations.
- Participate in ongoing Performance Improvement Program with VAMC and STGi Performance Excellence program.
- Ensure all required reports and clinical information are completed accurately and timely.
- Participate in staff development programs.
- Perform other clinical duties assigned within limits of privileges.
- Maintain confidentiality of all information and support patient privacy, rights and safety.
- Aid in management/coordination of the CBOC’s day-to-day activity.
- Perform other work‑related duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience as PA in outpatient setting; 3-5 years preferred.
- Current unrestricted DEA license and must obtain and maintain scope of practice/collaborative agreement with licensed physician.
- Current unrestricted Idaho license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification from AHA or MTN.
- Prescriptive authority in accordance with state rules and regulations.
- Ability to set realistic, measurable education goals for patients.
- Ability to develop individualized and group counseling, guidance and health instruction.
