Position Summary: Perform a variety of duties associated with the acceptance and collection of property tax payments according to established procedures and Idaho State Statutes. Assist with collecting taxes for 40 taxing districts, posting payments in person, over the phone and by mail, while balancing daily batches. Accurately and timely balance daily deposits and auditor certificate deposits for multiple county departments.
Make all daily deposits for incoming revenue to the county involving multiple bank accounts including Treasurer, Tax Collector, Tax Anticipation & Suspense. Support the office with any other clerical or general support needed, including public administration.
- Provide customer service to taxpayers in person, over the phone, and via email to answer tax‑related questions, estimate future taxes, take payments (cash, check, or credit card), or provide any other information they may need.
- Handle all cash taken in the Tax Collector’s office, balance all batches, and make daily deposits. Balance the Tax Anticipation drawer and create deposits as needed.
- Verify and post all Auditor’s Certificates from various county departments in Munis, and create daily deposits for Treasurer and Suspense accounts.
- Handle all NSF or returned bank transactions.
- Issue warrants of distraint per Idaho Code for delinquent personal property (mobile homes, state leases, business personal property, leased real property, transient personal property). Call taxpayers as needed to collect taxes owing, and work with the Sheriff’s Office as required.
- Coordinate with the Idaho Department of Lands for the annual tax drive to upload fire‑protection fees, accurately balance records, and make necessary changes with add‑ons and deletes.
- Upload Priest Lake Translator District fees, adding the appropriate fee to the correct parcels.
- Create and mail yield tax bills based on reports from the Assessors office.
- Create and send UADWeb usage invoices to title companies.
- Apply penalty and interest to delinquent parcels as needed.
- Assist with public‑administration responsibilities as needed, including inventory, organizing assets, and cleaning.
- Help with third‑year delinquent files as needed.
- Help with tax‑drive preparation as needed.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Post‑high‑school education in accounting or bookkeeping preferred.
- Strong cash‑handling skills.
- Good understanding of basic accounting and bookkeeping.
- Current valid driver’s license.
- Ability to type accurately at 50 WPM or higher.
- Ability to proficiently use a 10‑key calculator.
- Strong multi‑tasking skills with numerous interruptions.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work well with others in office and throughout other departments of the County.
Physical Environment: 90% Office. Work mainly performed at a personal desk, able to sit or stand as desired. During tax drives (twice per year, two months each, frequently standing for long periods, up to 8 hours). 10% Public Administration (visiting supported records offices).
