Garden & Seed Library Coordinator
Do you love getting your hands in the dirt and bringing people together to learn something cool? Our Library is looking for the next Garden and Seed Library Coordinator—part garden steward, part program champion, part volunteer wrangler (the fun kind), and part community connector. You’ll help create a space where neighbors learn, share, and grow—literally. The library's garden is a vibrant community hub, and this role helps keep it accessible, functional, and full of life.
What You’ll Do- Keep the Library Garden healthy, beautiful, and productive
- Plan, plant, and maintain annual flowers, vegetables, and decorative features
- Weed, cultivate, design, and care for the garden throughout the seasons
- Do the hands-on work that makes a space feel alive and welcoming
- Lead and support volunteers
- Help train, and coordinate garden volunteers
- Build a collaborative, motivated volunteer team
- Keep garden work fun, clear, and well-organized
- Bring garden learning to life through programs
- Collaborate with library staff to deliver garden-related programs for diverse audiences
- Partner with community members and organizations for program ideas, resources, and support
- Coordinate the Seed Library
- Keep the Seed Library accessible, organized, and promoted in the community
- Support education and resources around seed saving, preservation, and community growing
Plus other duties as assigned, like budgeting, supporting other special projects, and misc. tasks.
What You BringRequired
- Gardening or horticulture knowledge, training, or experience
- Knowledge of sustainable gardening and seed-saving practices
- Experience volunteering, working with volunteers and/or managing volunteers
- Clear communication skills and/or public speaking (verbal and written, in English)
- Valid driver’s license + acceptable driving record
- At least 18 years old + high school diploma/GED (or equivalent combo of education/training/experience)
Preferred (but not required)
- Experience designing and delivering educational or community programs
- Knowledge of soils & garden water-delivery systems
This is an outdoor-focused role, so you’ll be working in the elements and doing physical activity like:
- Standing/walking for extended periods
- Bending, kneeling, digging, reaching, climbing
- Lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds
- Using common gardening tools and basic office/library tech
Plants don’t always run on a 9–5 schedule—and neither do gardeners.
This is a seasonal position with up to 32 hours per week from about March-October. The ideal candidate will need the ability to host programs during the day, late afternoons and occasional Saturday mornings. There is a possibility of winter work within the library for the right person.
