Pay Ranges

Assistant Pool Manager: $20.70 - $24.84

Pool Manager: $23.00 - $27.60

A City of San Ramon Assistant Pool Manager/Pool Manager provides safety, supervision, and instruction for the patrons at the San Ramon Olympic Pool & Aquatic Park and Dougherty Valley Aquatic Center.  These advanced lifeguarding positions provide leadership and program responsibility to the San Ramon Olympic Pool & Aquatic Park and Dougherty Valley Aquatic Center in all operations at the facility including swim lessons, recreational swim, water safety classes, aquatics summer camps, and staff development.  

During the busy summer season, these positions may be assigned up to a 40 hour work week, which may include evenings and weekends.

Candidates will be considered for the Assistant Pool Manager and Pool Manager vacancies depending on the candidates' qualifications and experience, as well as, the number of positions available at each level.

These are the journey-level classes in the Lifeguard Series in the Parks and Community Services Department. Positions in this series typically have basic work-related experience and work under general supervision.

The Assistant Pool Manager level usually perform duties required of the Pool Manager level, but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and positions at the Pool Manager level can be filled by advancement from the Assistant Pool Manager level after gaining the knowledge, skill, and experience which meet the qualifications for and after demonstrating the ability to perform the work of the higher-level class.

Typical Duties

Assistant Pool Manager:

* All duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard I, Lifeguard II, Swim Instructor and Senior Lifeguard;

* Assists in All Staff trainings and meetings;

* Leads staff during facility rentals, Lap Swim, Recreation Swim; and

* Assists the lead Pool Manager with programs and camps;

* Operates City of San Ramon vehicles;

* Plans and organizes program elements;

* Maintains supply inventory;

* May provide supervision and training to employees within the assigned department.

* Acts as the direct contact for program participants to explain policies, procedures, and problem solve;

* Assists the Lead Pool Manager with the Swim Lesson program during summer programming; and

* Acts as the Lead staff for the Swim Lesson program during Spring and Fall.

* Performs related duties as assigned.

Pool Manager:

All duties and responsibilities of an Assistant Pool Manager, plus:

* Schedules staff for facility rentals.

* Creates, modifies, and implements age-appropriate program curriculums.

* Creates and distributes marketing materials.

* Assists in teaching safety classes such as Lifeguard Training, First Aid and CPR.

* Assists in the implementation and scheduling of staff, programs, and services.

Knowledge of:

Basic safety precautions and procedures related to recreation programs and facilities. Philosophy, objectives and requirements in the implementation of municipal aquatics programs. Knowledge and command of all of the latest safety standards and information related to aquatics. Professional work habits including reliability, dependability, creativity, and demonstration of enthusiasm for the job. Techniques for effectively dealing with individuals of various ages, various socio-economic and ethnic groups, and effectively representing the City in contacts with the public.

Techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the public, vendors, contractors, and City staff. Office equipment, practices, and procedures.

Ability to:

Conduct one's self in a professional manner. Function effectively under general supervision and to develop effective working relationships with fellow City employees and the public. Utilize staff and volunteers effectively. Receive direction and to follow oral and written instructions. Maintain accurate records and use simple math. Handle and prioritize multiple tasks. Evaluate personnel and programs effectively. Ability to be reliable, dependable, show creativity and enthusiasm.

Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing. Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines. Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

* Must be a minimum of 18 years old and at least 730 hours of experience as a certified lifeguard or an equivalent working in aquatics, leadership work experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
