Schedule: Monday–Friday (Director-level role with 24/7 departmental accountability)

Salary Range: $160,000 – $270,000 (DOE)

Relocation Assistance: Available based on distance

Wheeler Staffing Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Nursing Services to provide executive leadership within an acute care hospital setting in San Ramon, California. This Director-level position reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and maintains 24-hour accountability for the overall operation, performance, and quality outcomes of one or more nursing departments.

Position Summary

The Director of Nursing Services plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates patient care services to ensure the delivery of high-quality, individualized care. This role maintains compliance with accreditation and licensure requirements, oversees staffing and budget management, and leads performance improvement initiatives across assigned departments.

The Director serves as a seasoned hospital leader responsible for operational excellence, regulatory compliance, staff development, and fiscal accountability in a fast-paced acute care environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 24/7 operational leadership for assigned nursing departments
  • Develop and implement departmental goals aligned with organizational strategy
  • Ensure compliance with all state, federal, and regulatory standards
  • Oversee staffing plans and collaborate with leadership to maintain appropriate coverage
  • Develop, monitor, and manage departmental capital, labor, and operating budgets
  • Analyze and address budget variances while maintaining productivity and quality standards
  • Lead hospital-wide and unit-based performance improvement initiatives
  • Establish and evaluate patient care standards and quality metrics
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and emergency preparedness protocols
  • Address sensitive patient, staff, and physician concerns with professionalism and confidentiality
  • Mentor and develop nursing leaders and staff
  • Foster a culture of service excellence and collaboration
Minimum Qualifications

Education (Required)

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) – Required

Education (Preferred)

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or related field (MSN, MHA, MBA, or equivalent)

Experience (Required)

  • Minimum 3+ recent years of progressive management experience (Assistant Director or Director level required)
  • Experience with in the same clinical specialty/field
  • Minimum 5+ recent years of acute care hospital experience
  • Inpatient hospital leadership experience required
  • Proven ability to work under tight deadlines in a fast-paced hospital environment
Licensure & Certifications (Required – Must Be Active at Time of Hire)
  • Current, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Relocation candidates must obtain California RN licensure prior to start
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association

No pending or expired licenses or certifications accepted.
