Staff Accountant

Description

We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team in San Mateo, CA. In this Contract to permanent employment position, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy of financial transactions, reconciliations, and reporting while supporting various accounting processes. This opportunity is ideal for professionals eager to expand their expertise in capital expenditures, month-end close procedures, and tax-related documentation.

Responsibilities:

- Process and review capital purchase orders, vendor invoices, and maintain tracking schedules for capital assets and projects.

- Assist in reconciling tax abatement schedules and ensuring alignment with general ledger balances.

- Calculate and support commission accruals based on approved plans, escalating discrepancies as needed.

- Prepare journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and contribute to month-end and year-end close activities.

- Ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions in compliance with established policies.

- Collaborate with internal teams to gather documentation for audits and support process improvement initiatives.

- Maintain organized records and documentation related to tax incentives and abatements.

- Review and analyze budget versus actual comparisons, providing variance support.

- Follow accounting controls and procedures to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.

- Support training initiatives and contribute to enhancing accounting processes.

Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is required.

- A minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.

- Strong proficiency in Excel, including formulas and reconciliations.

- Basic understanding of accounting principles and standards.

- Experience with sales tax, tax abatement, and month-end close processes.

- Familiarity with accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR) functions.

- Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive approach to learning.

- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and efficiency.
