Job SummaryThe Cost Engineer supports project teams by developing accurate budgets, maintaining cost controls, and ensuring financial transparency throughout the construction lifecycle. This role collaborates closely with project managers, estimators, superintendents, and accounting teams to help deliver projects efficiently, responsibly, and within established financial goals.
Salary Range$90,000 - $130,000 annually

- Develop and maintain accurate project budgets, cost codes, and financial tracking systems.
- Prepare detailed cost reports, forecasts, and cash‑flow projections for project teams and leadership.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs, cost analyses, and cost‑to‑complete evaluations.
- Support project managers with cost control strategies, variance identification, and corrective action planning.
- Maintain organized cost documentation for audits, reporting, and project closeout.
- Participate in project meetings to understand scope, schedule, and design intent.
- Provide clear, data‑driven cost information to support decision‑making and value‑engineering discussions.
- Assist in evaluating cost impacts related to design changes, clarifications, and owner‑requested modifications.
- Support procurement efforts by reviewing bids, leveling proposals, and validating subcontractor pricing.
- Communicate project scope and cost expectations clearly during the solicitation and negotiation process.
- Track subcontractor cost performance and ensure alignment with contract requirements and project budgets.
- Review, price, and document subcontractor change orders and potential cost impacts.
- Bachelor's degree within the construction field.
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, estimating software (Timberline or similar), and scheduling software (Primavera or similar).
- Careful attention to detail and resourcefulness in acquiring project specific information.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrates ability to effectively manage multiple tasks under differing deadlines.
- Able to work flexible hours as needed or required by project or proposal deadlines.
