Responsibilities- Teach full‑time courses in the communication studies discipline, including day, evening, and hybrid/online formats, using culturally responsive pedagogical techniques.
- Engage African‑American, Latinx, Filipinx, and Pacific‑Islander students who are historically underrepresented in traditional classroom settings.
- Maintain expertise in current teaching methodologies and curricula, developing instructional materials to close equity gaps for disproportionately impacted student populations.
- Assist in new course development, curriculum revisions, and departmental and institutional assessments.
- Participate in evaluation and selection of course materials, technology, and equipment that enhance the department’s offerings.
- Serve as a member of division and college committees, and consult with students during scheduled office hours.
- Master’s degree or higher in speech, broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication, or organizational communication; or Bachelor’s degree in any of the above plus a Master’s in drama/theater arts, mass communication, or English.
- Recent, successful experience teaching college‑level transfer courses related to public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, small‑group communication, argumentation and debate, gender and communication, and health communication.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students.
- Evidence of collaboration with campus programs such as learning communities, TRIO, Transfer Center, and International Student Programs.
- Willingness to expand the use of technology in hybrid and/or online teaching, and to motivate students from a broad spectrum of academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds.
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students in the classroom.
- Understanding of historical patterns of exclusion in higher education and in the field of communication studies, and ability to remediate instructional practices.
- Experience addressing equity issues in the classroom and on campus, and expertise in culturally responsive teaching.
- Knowledge of HSI and AANAPISI designations and implications for institutional and instructional practices.
