Schedule:

Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Initial placement can range from $60.01 to $75.10 per hour (Salary Schedule AJ – Special Rate).

Months Per Year: Semester assignments as needed

Mandated Reporter: Yes

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach classes as assigned based on the areas of self‑development, career planning, social adjustment, personal management, community service, and general life/skills knowledge
  • Provide learning support services and activities
  • Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours
  • Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies
  • Support and supervise co‑curricular activities
  • Perform professional responsibilities per pertinent goals, missions, and plans of the college, division, and programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director or required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs
Knowledge Of
  • The use of technology in teaching career and learning strategies
  • Theoretical and practical applications of the subject matter and the ability to organize and teach in ways appropriate to students' abilities
Skills and Abilities
  • Enthusiasm and expertise in teaching high school students
  • Successful experience teaching and providing general classroom guidance in academic strategies, i.e., critical thinking, organization skills, time management, collaboration, studying skills, note taking, career education and pathways, and college readiness
  • Understanding and commitment to the role and purpose of the MCSC
  • Acceptance of the division's and MCSC's commitment to established academic standards
  • Maintain current records of student attendance and progress
  • Evaluate student progress based primarily on achievement of performance objectives
  • Adhere to MCSC and SMCCCD policies and procedures and state regulations
  • Use writing as an evaluative assessment
  • Develop and use teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and engage students actively in product‑based learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with higher‑order thinking skills
  • Organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences
  • Develop instructional learning outcomes and to develop methods for assessing students' achievement of these outcomes
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree(s) or higher in government or economics and two years of related professional experience OR associate degree(s) in government or economics and six years of related professional experience OR the equivalent (see below). Professional experience is required when the applicant possesses a master's degree.
  • California Single Subject Teaching Credential
  • Current EL Authorization (part of California Single Subject Teaching Credential)
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity‑minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.
