The NCS Technician is responsible for performing Nerve Conduction Studies as part of the EMG/NCS diagnostic process. This role requires strong technical skills, patient‑centered communication, and the ability to work efficiently alongside neurologists and other clinical providers.
Key Responsibilities- Perform Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS) following established clinical protocols.
- Prepare patients by explaining procedures, positioning them appropriately, and applying surface electrodes.
- Operate stimulators, amplifiers, and specialized neurodiagnostic software.
- Accurately record and label waveform data for physician interpretation.
- Maintain equipment functionality and ensure rooms are cleaned, stocked, and compliant with safety standards.
- Assist physicians or advanced practice providers during EMG‑related procedures when needed.
- Document procedures in accordance with clinic, regulatory, and HIPAA guidelines.
Required
- Experience performing Nerve Conduction Studies or completion of a neurodiagnostic technician program.
- Working knowledge of nerve pathways, neuromuscular physiology, and NCS fundamentals.
- Proficiency with electrode placement and electrical stimulation techniques.
- Strong communication, patient service, and technical troubleshooting skills.
Preferred
- National certification (e.g., R.NCS.T, CNCT) or eligibility.
- Prior experience in neurology or neurodiagnostic settings.
- Familiarity with EMG procedures and assisting physician‑performed diagnostic testing.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and assist with patient positioning.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in data collection.
- Professionalism, reliability, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
