Position: Medical Assistant - Family Medicine (PACE)

Role Overview

Medical Assistant (MA) - PACE is responsible for performing routine clinical and administrative tasks. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examinations, drawing blood and administering medications. Administrative duties may include answering phone calls, registering new patients, scheduling appointments and collecting and posting fees.

Responsibilities
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and confirm purpose of visit.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms stocked, neat and clean.
  • Sterilize instruments following sterilization guidelines and maintain accurate logs.
  • Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for examination by performing preliminary physical tests; and taking blood pressure, height, weight and temperature.
  • Record patients' medical history, vital signs and information such as test results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Assist medical staff in examining and treating patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as giving injections and removing sutures.
  • Perform various laboratory procedures to include urine analysis, cultures, immunization, Hgb, lead levels and EKGs.
  • Change dressings on wounds.
  • Secure patient information and maintain patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Refer calls to medical staff when appropriate for emergency or medical questions.
  • Facilitate clear and effective communication between PACE patients, their families, primary care physicians, specialists, and health plans.
  • Receive and process referrals from various sources, including agency staff, community organizations, and individuals seeking information about the PACE program.
  • Assist with the enrollment process, providing comprehensive explanations of program details and ensuring potential patients fully understand their rights and the voluntary nature of enrollment.
  • Ensure strict adherence to all PACE regulations and program policies.
  • Qualifications
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, medical laboratory procedures and healthcare operations and workflow
    • Medical Assistant Certificate (from an accredited school)
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of the PACE program model and its regulations
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish (may be required at some clinics)
    • Associate's degree in healthcare related courses
    • At least one (1) year of Medical Assistant experience strongly preferred
    • Six (6) months of experience with documentation in an EHR system
    • Phlebotomy training strongly preferred
    • Knowledge of the PACE program model and its regulations

    The pay range for this role is $23.00 - $32.20 on an hourly basis.
