The Department of Mathematics at California State University San Marcos seeks a part‑time lecturer to teach MATH 464:
Numerical Analysis and Computing. The course covers computer arithmetic, solution of a single algebraic equation, solution of systems of equations using interpolating polynomials, numerical integration, numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, error analysis, and computational effort of numerical algorithms. The course combines theoretical ideas with hands‑on laboratory experience and will run for 16 weeks from August 25 to December 5, in a 4‑hour online synchronous format on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Description:

Computer arithmetic, solution of a single algebraic equation, solution of systems of equations interpolating polynomials, numerical integration, numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, error analysis, and computational effort of numerical algorithms. Combines theoretical ideas with hands‑on laboratory experience.

  • A master’s degree in mathematics or a related field
  • Per the California State University’s Out‑of‑State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU‑related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A doctorate or equivalent in mathematics and related fields
  • Experience teaching similar courses at 4‑year universities
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving a diverse campus community in teaching and, as applicable, service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary: $2,279 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
  • CSU Classification Salary: $2,279 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
