Purpose StatementThe job of Special Subjects Teacher is intended to support the instructional process by serving as a teacher with specific responsibilities for developing student success in academics (e.g., reading, writing, language, math, etc.) or skills (e.g., art, music, physical education, etc.). The role includes supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual instruction within established curriculum guidelines;
collaborating with teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues; and responding to inquiries from students’ parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress. This position reports to the Principal.
Minimum Qualifications Skills
Required skills include performing multiple, highly complex technical tasks and periodically upgrading skills to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill‑based competencies include applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment and pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KnowledgeRequired knowledge includes basic math skills (calculations involving fractions, percentages, and ratios); reading technical information, composing documents, and facilitating group discussions; and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge‑based competencies include understanding relevant codes, policies, regulations, and laws; designing age‑appropriate activities; adhering to lesson‑plan requirements; recognizing stages of child development; and applying behavioral management strategies.
AbilityRequired abilities include scheduling activities, meetings, and events; gathering, collating, and classifying data; using job‑related equipment; and working flexibly with diverse individuals and groups. Problem‑solving skills are essential for analyzing issues and creating action plans. Additional competencies include establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; and working flexible hours.
ResponsibilitiesWork under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; direct other persons within a small work unit; operate within a defined budget; and utilize resources from other work units as needed. The role offers opportunities to significantly impact the organization’s services.

ExperienceJob‑related experience is required.
EducationBachelor’s degree in a job‑related area.
