Job DescriptionNestled on the Central California Coast, Adventist Health Sierra Vista has been providing care to our community since 1959. Our 162‑bed acute care facility includes a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and county designated trauma center, and the surrounding community offers a lively downtown and short access to natural hot springs, beaches, and dune landscapes.
Job SummaryProvides nursing care, including triage, treatment, and discharge care for Emergency Department patients from newborns to geriatrics.
Job Requirements- Associate Degree (A.S.) or equivalent – Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing – Preferred
- One year acute‑care experience – Required
- Current RN license in state of practice – Required
- Basic Life Support (BLS or HS‑BLS or RQI‑BLS) – Required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS or HS‑ACLS or RQI‑ACLS) – Required
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS or HS‑PALS or RQI‑PALS) – Required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Required within 6 months of hire or transfer
- Complete accurate triage assessments on all patients and notify the Emergency MD of all abnormal signs, symptoms, and vital signs 100% of the time. Review and complete patient orders timely. Provide medication side‑effects teaching to all patients receiving medication in the ED, including discharge instructions.
- Recognize symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress and other impending emergencies 100% of the time. Provide appropriate nursing interventions in stable and emergent patient situations. Be competent in routine nursing skills including medication administration, intravenous therapy (including blood products), care and maintenance of indwelling catheters and drains, safe use of critical‑care equipment, and adherence to policy chain of command.
- Accurately interpret ECG rhythm and manage care of patients during life‑threatening emergencies. Demonstrate knowledge of lead functions and application, making recommendations for best monitoring based on presentation.
- Demonstrate appropriate knowledge and skill in providing care during Code Blue, Code Stroke, Sepsis, and Trauma activations.
- Complete legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care, including evaluation of patient’s response to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistently perform required unit‑specific safety and quality control checks. Facilitate safe and timely coordination with inpatient units when admitting patients from the ED.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
