Job Summary:
The OB/GYN Nurse is responsible for the planning and provision of nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, postpartum and postoperative periods, including emergency situations. Supervises and delegates care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with their scope of practice. This position is represented by CNA.

Essential Functions:
- Competently completes a gestational and a comprehensive newborn assessment. Consistently recognizes and reports any variances from normal. Competently performs standard postpartum physical assessment including status of fundus, lochia, perineum and breasts.
- Competently performs standard post operative Womens/GYN assessment. Consistently recognizes and reports any variance from normal post op course. Performs physical & psych assessments of all patients, which demonstrates knowledge and consideration of age specific and cultural differences.
- Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal, postpartum and other women's postoperative emergencies. Provides caring support to grieving families. Educates pt/families in all stages of post partum or post operative period and utilizes methods approp to age, condition, culture & learning readiness.
- Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal oriented care plan for each pt in collaboration with members of the health care team and provides care based on that plan. Completes legible, accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluation of patient's response to medications, treatments & procedures.
- Consistently performs necessary unit specific safety & quality control checks (i.e. Shift and 24hr MD order checks, VO/TO Read Back, crash cart checks, urine QC, refrig logs & outdate checks). Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care, services, and unit operation. Is open to change and reaching new goals for the unit.
