About the Role

We are seeking a big-picture-minded Maintenance Manager, someone who can create a vision and mission for a maintenance team. A person who can delegate tasks and responsibilities to maintenance supervisors in an effective, positive, and efficient manner. Our Maintenance Director will uphold strict adherence and personal accountability by understanding and following OSHA guidelines and other regulations. This person will exhibit problem-solving and team-building skills.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes operational safety policies and procedures to prevent incidents/accidents and ensure consistent compliance with OSHA requirements.
  • Provides leadership in developing company policies and programs for awareness of general safety and OSHA requirements.
  • Administers all planned maintenance programs, including safety hazards training, OSHA regulations, and environmental aspects.
  • Partners with Safety, Risk, and Continuous Improvement to implement process improvements to ensure compliance and drive excellence in all aspects of our operations.
  • Adheres to preventive maintenance principles and quality management.
  • Extensive knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws pertaining to maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Labor Management policies and procedures.
  • Ability to interact and communicate with public officials and all levels of staff including managers, supervisors, collective bargaining employees, and intra-department personnel.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles, procedures, and policies related to bus maintenance.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relations with teams, colleagues, the union, the public, medical and governmental agencies, elected officials, and the board of trustees.
  • Provides oversight, direction, and coordination of staff in the provision of cost-effective, efficient, and reliable transit services within available and financial resources.
  • Impeccable judgment and ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced, dynamic setting.
  • Executive-level presentation skills and ability to handle high-level client interactions.
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship-building, and negotiating skills.
  • Tracking expenses/overseeing the budget for maintenance striving for cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in coordinating transit safety and service delivery, field operations, labor relations, staff development, and collective bargaining negotiation skills in a union environment strongly preferred.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations (EPA, OSHA, DOT, ADA, and EEOC).
Required Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and public communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large and diverse workforce, especially in a unionized setting that requires intense attention to customer service and the customer experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage people in operational and corporate support programs for a large organization.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
  • Ability to effectively organize, access, and have produced a variety of written materials for different audiences and consistently meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills
  • A bachelor’s degree in industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Business Administration preferred.
  • (5) years of transit or diesel vehicle maintenance management experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong ability to perform and manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Ability to manage and organize work assignments, styles, and relationships with several respective managers.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks, manage time, and work without constant supervision.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
