Job Summary

Cal Poly Maritime Academy at the Solano Campus located in Vallejo, CA is in the midst of transforming project delivery processes and accelerating capital planning. The Program Manager will lead project management administration for capital outlay projects, fostering collaboration among clients, design professionals, consultants, and contractors. The role supports a program focused environment, managing operations and budgets, coaching a team of project managers, and championing initiatives within the Facilities Planning & Capital Projects department.

Department

Summary

Facilities Management and Development (FMD) is a unit within the Administration and Finance Division responsible for planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and repair of university facilities. FMD includes four support departments:
Customer & Business Services;
Energy, Utilities, & Sustainability;
Facilities Planning & Capital Projects; and Facilities Operations.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with FMD Leadership and AFD Senior Leadership to establish long and short‑term goals and set department priorities aligned with the university’s strategic and physical master plans.
  • Coordinate with campus planning, academics, auxiliaries, and other facility users to determine 5‑year capital planning efforts.
  • Analyze benchmarks and evaluate past and current facilities data for improvements and new building programming.
  • Categorize identified requirements and prioritize actions such as system renewals, construction of new facilities, mandated projects (regulatory compliance or lease obligations), and donor‑funded projects.
  • Demonstrate programming scenarios and procurement methods to pinpoint risks, highlight financial consequences, and provide budget forecasts.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management or related field and eight years of progressively responsible project management experience (additional experience may substitute for the degree).
  • Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one year of required professional experience.
Licenses, Certificates, Credentials
  • Valid California Driver’s License (or ability to obtain by hire date).
  • Ability to obtain AHERA Inspector certification for asbestos‑related work and Cal/OSHA Lead training; ability to wear respiratory protection and pass a Cal/OSHA mandated medical evaluation.
Salary and Benefits

The anticipated hiring range for this role is $136,500 – $160,000 per year, based on the applicant’s background and experience.
