Assistant Project Manager – Solano Campus (Facilities Planning & Capital Projects)
California Polytechnic State University–San Luis Obispo invites applications for the Assistant Project Manager position in the Facilities Planning & Capital Projects (FPCP) Department of Facilities Management and Development (FMD). The role supports project planning, architectural and engineering design/coordination, construction, and project management services for Cal Poly Maritime Academy at the Solano Campus in Vallejo, CA.
Job SummaryThe Assistant Project Manager reports directly to the Executive Director of FPCP and is responsible for managing assigned construction projects. The position interfaces with faculty, staff, administrators, project donors, CSU officials, the State Fire Marshal, professional consultants, contractors, vendors, and other parties to ensure project success. Key responsibilities include coordinating project activities, maintaining schedules and budgets, and ensuring compliance with university policies and regulations.
Responsibilities- Assist with projects during development, planning, design, construction, close‑out, and warranty of major capital outlay projects.
- Support overall project performance in scope, safety, quality, schedule, innovation, and cost.
- Represent the university and work with project teams—including campus groups, university officials, architects, engineers, contractors, inspectors, and local agencies—throughout all project phases.
- Coordinate and integrate project meetings and activities, keeping campus clients and users updated on project status.
- Monitor project activities, development, and resources to mitigate risk and address challenges promptly.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Additional qualifying experience may substitute for required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- A master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of the required professional experience.
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. A position may require AHERA Inspector certification for asbestos‑related work, Cal/OSHA Lead training, and the ability to wear respiratory protection. A Cal/OSHA‑mandated medical evaluation is required prior to respirator use.
Salary & BenefitsThe anticipated salary range is $77,000–$95,000 per year, based on the applicant’s background and experience.
