Overview

This is a temporary part-time position with no benefits. The work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 11:30 am.

The Successful Candidate

The successful candidate must have a basic understanding of Facilities Maintenance and repair practices, have some technical skills, prioritize safety, and be able to pursue solutions to challenging problems. They must possess good time management and organizational skills. They must be good communicators who work calmly and effectively with people of different personality types and co-workers in the organization.

In addition to adequate field experience, in one or more of the following fields: painting, cleaning, record keeping, and some basic repairs on plumbing, carpentry, and swimming pool equipment. The candidate must be able to work within City policy and operate multiple software platforms for the work order system and timecard documentation.

Job Summary

The Facilities Aide Pool supports the Facilities Maintenance Technician with daily, monthly, and annual maintenance of the SLO Swim Center. Incumbents in this position perform SLO Swim Center maintenance including, but not limited to, pool vacuuming, minor equipment repair, cleaning, maintaining, and general upkeep of various pool-related facilities and equipment.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Employees in this classification work under direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor with general guidance from the Facilities Maintenance Technician assigned at the Swim Center.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
  • (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks that may be found in positions of this class.)
  • Perform SLO Swim Center facility maintenance, repairs, and upkeep.
  • Provide excellent customer service to both external and internal customers.
  • Assist in the scheduling of year-round facility maintenance.
  • Assist Facilities Maintenance staff with the purchase of maintenance equipment at City facilities.
  • Coordinate and perform weekly site inspections to identify facility needs for maintenance or further inspection.
  • Preform pool water test and document result.
  • Brush and vacuum pools
  • Walk and sweep pool decks.
  • Keep tool, mechanical, and chemical rooms clean.
  • Performs related duties similar to the above in scope and function as required.
Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Tools, equipment, and methods used in pool and Facilities maintenance work.
  • Basic safety precautions and procedures required in maintenance work.
  • Safe and proper use of chemicals used to perform duties, such as degreaser and paint remover.

Ability to:

  • Meet the physical requirements necessary to safely and effectively perform required duties.
  • Work in outdoor environments, performing work safely, efficiently, and with a minimum of disruption.
  • Effectively utilize tools and equipment.
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties and with the public.
  • Learn and apply relevant City policies and procedures, as well as methods used in pool maintenance work.
  • Perform routine and basic maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Work both in an individual and team setting.
  • Lift and carry equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Experience in aquatics facility maintenance preferred.
