Overview

Description JOB SUMMARY:
Receive donations in a friendly and courteous manner to encourage continued community support. Following established procedures, perform preliminary sorting before packing/stacking/donations assigned protocol.

• Open location, survey supplies and capacity, report the number and type of large items requiring truck pickup and place status calls to supervisor according to defined procedures.
• Greet donors at their vehicle in a friendly and polite manner and hand donor a receipt. Accept or reject items for donation per defined procedures; explain reasons for item rejection. Hand donor explanation sheet if rejecting items.
• Record time and relevant information on daily records.
• Sort and stack donations into designated containers, ensuring items are tagged appropriately to contents.
• Maintain a clean and neat location inside and outside.
• Close and secure location at designated times.
• Place large and/or heavy items as designated by supervisor.
• Assist drivers with loading and transfer of items and trailers.
• Report location status at the end of the day through computer/tablet application and/or telephone call.
• Depending on location, may assist with warehouse donation drop-offs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

  Knowledge of Goodwill Central Coast’s mission, general Company policies, and procedures (this may be learned on the job).
• Equipment Used: Barrels, wire cages, boxes, carts, totes, hand-trucks, dollies, box cutters, scissors, broom & dustpan, mop & bucket, computer/tablet, pen/pencil, paper, clipboard, portable staircase.
• Skills/Aptitudes/Temperaments: Ability to communicate in basic oral and written English. Basic Spanish preferred. Ability to follow procedures and handle orderly packing/stacking activities. Ability to traffic donations safely and work with or without supervision. Ability to maintain self-control and work with the public and co-workers. Good judgment in donation acceptance and clear explanation of decisions.
• Emotional Effort: The activity level will fluctuate. The work is routine, with varying overtime expectations depending on location.

• The job is performed independently with regular public contact and occasional contact with other employees. Hours vary by season/location. Work is indoors and outdoors with exposure to weather, noise, dust, fumes, and odors. Ground around the trailer may be uneven. Trailers can be elevated from ground level; climbing stairs or ladders may be required. Approximately 70%–90% of the workday is spent outdoors.
  
  Separating household chemicals from regular donations may occur.
• Physical Demands: Frequent lifting up to 25 lbs, regular lifting up to 50 lbs. Larger items (51 lbs or more) moved with assistance or equipment. Other listed physical requirements are described in the source material and may be accommodated as needed.
