Paralegal

Are you a paralegal looking to work in a fast-paced, friendly environment in San Luis Obispo? The personal injury attorneys at James McKiernan Lawyers have been representing injured people throughout the California Central Coast for more than 40 years, and we are looking for a responsible paralegal to join our team.

The position includes good pay and benefits such as health insurance. Our office may consider a position for part-time work as well.

• Organize and maintain documents in an electronic or paper filing system
• File pleadings with the court clerk
• Prepare legal correspondence, briefs, affidavits, contracts, and other documents
• Investigate facts, search public records and other sources, and help prepare cases
• Meet with lawyers, clients, and other professionals to discuss case details
• Call on witnesses to testify at hearings
• Gather and analyze decisions, statutes, legal articles, documents, codes, and other data
• Coordinate and direct law office activities, including delivery of subpoenas

• An associate degree in paralegal studies or certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program
• Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Excellent organizational skills
• Ability to multitask
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills
• Ability to function in a busy, team-oriented environment
