San Luis Obispo, CA

Responsibilities
  • Provide services to substance use disorder clients, including assessments, development of treatment and recovery plans, identification of behaviors that impede rehabilitation, and facilitation of individual and group counseling sessions.
  • Deliver individual and group counseling services, case management services, education and community outreach, and referrals to appropriate services/community resources as necessary.
  • Administer intake and program orientation for participants, including assessment of psychological and social functioning and development, implementation, and ongoing review of Individual Treatment Plans in accordance with Program policies.
  • Conduct breathalyzer and/or saliva tests as appropriate, documenting results.
  • Prepare participant progress reports when necessary.
  • Interface with the criminal justice system and referral sources when necessary.
  • Monitor and maintain participant files, attendance, progress notes, and related documentation to ensure compliance with program policies.
  • Monitor participant payments/fees and assist with fee collections; conduct financial assessment interviews as required by program protocols.
  • Recommend leaves of absence, dismissal, reinstatement, and completion for participants in accordance with program policies.
  • Communicate openly and regularly with Clinical Supervisor and support staff to ensure program effectiveness (caseload, hours, scheduling, group capacity, etc.).
  • Abide by all Kings View policies and procedures, including confidentiality of program participants (Title IX, Title 42, and HIPAA/Privacy).
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree or the equivalent of sixty college semester units with emphasis in behavioral or social sciences as required for the position.
  • Three years abstinence if there is a history of substance abuse.
  • Completion of 40 hours per two-year period of related training required for continued employment for registered/certified counselors;
    Alcohol and Drug Registration and active pursuit of Certification in good standing by an agency recognized by the DHCS is required at time of hire; maintain counselor certification as required by State law.
  • Keen knowledge of CLAS standards; familiarity with electronic health record systems (AVATAR); knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions.
  • Ability to relate to others, establish, and maintain effective relationships; strong verbal, written, and interpersonal skills; integrity in handling sensitive information; action-oriented with strong problem-solving and organizational skills; ability to multi-task and adapt to changing environments; team player.
  • Membership in the California Association of DUI Treatment Programs (CADTP) is encouraged.
