Who are we looking for?The US West Region is looking for a motivated Transportation Project Manager – Highways Roads to support GHD’s practice throughout California and the US West. You will work on highways, interchanges, local roads, roundabouts, trails/active transportation, bridges, and other vital improvements across federal, state, regional, county, municipal agencies and private sectors.
Responsibilities- Project Governance:
Clarify roles and responsibilities within the project team and ensure compliance with the organization’s program and portfolio management structures and processes. - Portfolio Management:
Plan and manage the delivery of projects within an area of expertise, using an appropriate project management methodology to achieve intended outcomes. - Project Team Management:
Lead large or multiple small-to-medium teams; define vision, communicate outcomes, coordinate team actions, and build capability through training and mentoring. - Project Risk and Issue Management:
Identify and manage risks, issues, dependencies, and constraints; develop, agree on, and implement solutions. - Project Benefit Realization:
Deliver baseline assessments and post‑implementation analyses to evaluate and track business benefit realization. - Project Resource Management:
Negotiate and manage deployment of project resource budgets; provide forecasts and variances with narrative at review points. - Culture of Innovation:
Drive innovation by creating stakeholder solutions, ideation platforms, jam sessions, and hackathons. - Leadership and Direction:
Communicate the function’s strategy and business plan within the team; explain the relationship to the organization’s mission and values; motivate people to commit to extraordinary results. - Personal Capability Building:
Develop capabilities through training, coaching, and professional accreditation; maintain knowledge of technology, regulations, and best practices. - Transformational Change Management:
Manage projects or work streams within a change program, ensuring integration and embedding desired culture and behaviors. - Stakeholder Management:
Develop and implement engagement plans to identify stakeholders, build relationships, and ensure appropriate stakeholder voice. - Project Scope Definition:
Plan and lead information gathering, analysis, and stakeholder consultation; negotiate and agree on project deliverables. - Project Assurance:
Manage assurance reviews with independent third parties and resolve issues to give senior stakeholders confidence in time, budget, and quality. - Enterprise Business Analysis:
Interpret business needs and recommend solutions to business problems at the business unit level.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- 8+ years of experience with solid technical knowledge and skills across transportation and municipal engineering, including planning and design; construction experience a plus.
- Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California or Arizona (required).
- Experience in transportation project management, specifically highways and roads.
- Experience with project management software and tools.
- Ability to lead development of client proposals and participate in interviews.
- Knowledge of Caltrans and AASHTO guidelines and standards; strong foundation in PS&E package development.
- Experience with local agency, state, and federally funded projects including Caltrans oversight partnerships.
$103,000 – $172,000 based on experience.
