Job SummaryThe primary purpose of the MFGE Technician is to leverage technical expertise and hands-on engineering and manufacturing experience towards
1) the development of processes and improvements for new products and
2) the sustainment and improvement of existing products. This position is divided into three classifications:
Manufacturing Engineering Technician 1,2,3. The compensation pay band is based on level of skills, knowledge, and experience.
Level 1 provides an introductory level with growth toward increased experience and autonomy under supervision of the MFGE Manager, with peer mentoring and collaboration with Operations and Engineering.
Level 2 is an intermediate level with increasing accountability and ability to operate independently, with less direct supervision and more collaboration within IPTs and with higher level stakeholders in Operations and Engineering.
Level 3 is the highest level, defined by the ability to independently develop and implement plans for solutions and improvements to processes and products, monitor status, and report updates to the MFGE Manager. This role includes mentoring and delegation of technical and process development skills, enabling autonomy across departments as a key product stakeholder.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties apply to two functional disciplines: mechanical and electrical. Responsibilities are largely the same across disciplines, with notes when tools and skillsets differ.
- During Prototype and LRIP Phases serve as a technician resource for Engineering teams and Engineering Program management, as assigned by the MFGE Manager.
- Assemble electro-mechanical assemblies with minimal/no supervision.
- Validate the design and/or materials used for a product’s assembly and test steps, in collaboration with ENG and MFGE personnel.
- Assist in designing and building assembly/test fixtures; develop and sustain preventative maintenance plans and schedules for those fixtures.
- Support the MFGE Manager and other MFGE personnel in devising part and product solutions by performing assembly/disassembly or testing tasks with lean principles.
- Troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues during prototype and LRIP phases and collaborate with MFG to solve production-related problems.
- Serve as a technician backup for Manufacturing during labor shortages.
- Build, test, and document production and test cables based on requirements defined by internal and external customers.
- Train Manufacturing and MFGE personnel on assembly or test techniques for specific products and subassemblies.
