Overview
History part-time lecturer pool at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. Positions are temporary and often made just prior to the start of the academic term. Availability on very short notice is required. The pool supports teaching in Fall, Winter, and/or Spring quarters of the academic year (beginning September 11, 2025). Duties may include teaching general education (GE) and lower-division survey classes in U.S., world, and European history;
GE political economy course (HIST 213 - Modern Political Economy); and/or upper-division GE and major courses in U.S., European, Asian, African, and Latin American history; or teacher education courses.
- Teach assigned courses as determined by need and funding.
- Possibly teach GE and upper-division courses across multiple historical regions and topics; may include teacher education courses.
- Participate in department duties as required by the hiring unit.
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
- Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,221
MA in History or a field related to the teaching area.
Preferred QualificationsPh.D. in History preferred.
Special Conditions- All CSU employees are designated as mandated reporters under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act. Compliance with CSU Executive Order 1083 and amendments is required.
- A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily after a conditional offer before starting employment. An individualized assessment will be performed if there is a criminal history.
- Current employees offered positions on campus may undergo a background check where required by law or for sensitive positions involving safeguarding people, animals, property, or finances.
