Job Description Summary

The Office of Instruction at Cuesta College is seeking a pool of Ethnic Studies Part‑Time Instructors. Cuesta College provides students with a rich and dynamic learning experience, emphasizing collaboration, engaging students in and out of the classroom, encouraging students to realize their goals and to become global citizens and socially responsible leaders. Instructional

Responsibilities

Effective teaching begins with good preparation. Faculty are responsible for choosing appropriate course materials, including resources at low or no cost to students, developing a student‑centered equity‑minded syllabus, which adheres to the college‑approved Course Outline of Record, and outlining classroom expectations and content to be covered. Additionally, faculty are expected to create content delivery plans, determine the best way to assess student learning, and assign grades.

This also includes respectful and intentional instructor‑student communication, availability during student hours, and identifying and connecting students with college services and resources.

Subject Matter Preparation
  • Have interest in teaching college‑level Ethnic Studies courses, such as Introduction to Social Justice and Ethnic Studies, Introduction to Native American and Indigenous Studies, Introduction to Black Studies, Introduction to Asian American and Pacific Islander Studies, Ethnic Studies for Educators, Women of Color, or Critical Whiteness Studies;
  • Have academic or professional work experience in the field of Ethnic Studies and Social Justice.
Evidence of Outstanding Ability as a Teacher
  • Commitment to staying current with the latest developments in Ethnic Studies and Social Justice;
  • The ability to continuously reflect on, evaluate, and improve teaching methods;
