Position Description
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Assistant Vice Provost for UA, the Transfer Center Assistant Director is directly responsible for overseeing the Transfer Center, including the creation of specific academic support resources and programs for transfer students. The Assistant Director identifies institutional barriers to transfer student academic success, utilizing high-level analytical and interpersonal skills to work across campus to propose, recommend, and implement solutions.
In collaboration with college advisors, department heads and chairs, and associate deans, as well as the Office of the Registrar and Admissions, the Assistant Director works to create a “transfer student lifecycle of support” from the onboarding process to graduation. The Assistant Director also serves as a resource for transfer initiatives on campus, reviews research on transfer inclusive practices, and provides transfer student inclusive training to faculty, staff, and students.
Department Summary
University Advising (UA), a division of Academic Affairs, is responsible for integrating, facilitating, coordinating, synthesizing, enabling, and fostering outcomes driven efforts that support student success (e.g., retention, persistence, and graduation). Through its unique range of campus-wide programs and initiatives, UA provides leadership, services, and resources to support all Cal Poly students in reaching their academic goals. UA does this by delivering time-sensitive, inclusive academic advising and support;
advocating for the academic needs of marginalized students; ensuring, through assessment and continuous review, that academic success policies and procedures are consistent and equitable; and removing institutional barriers to increase student retention and graduation.
