The Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering (IME) Department in the College of Engineering at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, California (Cal Poly) invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026.
Cal Poly has a tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship grounded in a “Learn by Doing” philosophy focused on preparing graduates to make a positive impact on their world day one. Faculty are expected to teach undergraduate and master’s level courses, support and expand curricular development in industrial engineering, conduct high quality research, and perform service activities at all university levels.

The department has 30+ tenured, tenure‑track and lecturer/adjunct faculty dedicated to teaching, applied research, advising students, and supporting student clubs.

Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The anticipated hiring range is $106,000–$117,000 per year. Faculty benefits include parental leave, educational fee waivers, childcare pre‑tax benefits, and an on‑campus children’s center.
Required Qualifications- An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in industrial engineering or a related field, or international equivalent.
- Eligibility to hold the doctorate, including ABD candidates who can prove award prior to or by the start of the appointment.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, effective communication and interpersonal skills with diverse student populations.
- Evidence of ability to develop an externally funded applied research program involving undergraduate, graduate students and industry partners.
- Commitment to hands‑on, student‑centered learning and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in English.
- Demonstrated excellence in university‑level teaching and research, commensurate with time since degree.
- Experience with laboratory‑based instruction and relevant industry experience or professional certifications.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment.
The position requires compliance with California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act, CSU Executive Order 1083, and mandatory background checks before employment. Cal Poly will support faculty in obtaining temporary visas, but it does not commit to sponsoring employment‑based visas for this position.
