Tenure Track Position – Inorganic Chemistry

California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly) invites qualified candidates to apply for a full‑time, academic‑year tenure‑track position in inorganic chemistry. Appointment will begin August 17, 2026.

Job Summary

The position will involve teaching general chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and courses within the applicant’s specialty. Faculty are expected to commit to undergraduate teaching excellence, scholarly activity, and service to the university. Candidates should pursue collaborative research projects with undergraduate students and develop a systematic program of research, scholarship, curriculum improvement, and service activities such as committee work, student advising, and industry partnership.

Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field completed prior to the start date.
  • Research specialization within inorganic chemistry.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student‑centered teaching and learning, and ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Proficiency in written and oral English.
  • Evidenced potential for high‑quality teaching and research with students.
  • Evidenced potential for scholarly productivity.
  • Evidenced potential for promoting the well‑being and advancement of students, colleagues, and the department.
  • Ability to foster a respectful, collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment for a diverse population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Specialization in computational inorganic chemistry.
  • Experience teaching lecture and laboratory courses at the university level.
  • Expertise in an area compatible with or broadening the department’s research activities.
  • Experience supervising student research.
  • Experience in pedagogical and/or curricular development.
Special Conditions

The employee will be a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and required to comply with CSU Executive Order 1083. A conditional offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory background check, including a criminal records check. The position is not a sponsor for work‑based visas.

The Chemistry and Biochemistry Department supports a wide range of programs and offers B.S. degrees, a Master’s degree in Polymers and Coatings Science, and is A.C.S. certified. Compensation and Rank
  • Assistant Professor: $97,788 – $107,628
  • Associate Professor: $112,500 – $118,524

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
