statistics, part-time lecturer pool

the statistics department in the bailey college of science and mathematics at cal poly, san luis obispo is seeking applications for a pool of part-time lecturers from our local geographic area. Positions are available as determined by need during fall, winter, and/or spring quarters of the 2025-26 academic year. Duties involve teaching undergraduate statistics courses.

initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the lecturer a or b rank. As of july 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

lecturer a: $5,507-$6,677
lecturer b: $6,221-$13,224
lecturer c: $6,825-$14,523
lecturer d: $8,593-$15,211

required qualifications
  • m.s. In statistics or a related field is required.
preferred qualifications
  • preference given to candidates with demonstrated excellence in teaching and/or industrial experience involving applied statistics.
special conditions

the person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the california child abuse and neglect reporting act and is required to comply with csu policies as a condition of employment.

following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with cal poly. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. Cal poly will not sponsor an h-1b for this position. Current employees offered on-campus positions will be required to undergo a background check where required by law or university policy.

the statistics department offers a bachelor of science in statistics and minors in statistics, data science, and actuarial studies. Twenty-three tenure-track faculty members and several lecturers contribute to a strong undergraduate curriculum emphasizing application and theory.
