Part-Time Lecturer Pool - Culinary/Food service (AY 25/26) - Job No: 546922.

San Luis Obispo. The Food Science and Nutrition Department within the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences at Cal Poly seeks applications for a pool of part-time lecturers with positions available as determined by need during the 2025-26 academic year. Lecturers are expected to teach undergraduate lectures and/or laboratory sections and/or supervised field experiences in areas such as fundamentals of food, cereal and bakery science, contemporary issues in food choice and preparation, institutional food service, and food systems management.
In addition, lecturers supervise student experiences and undergraduate research projects.
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2024, the salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,507-$6,677;
Lecturer B: $6,221-$13,224;
Lecturer C: $6,825-$14,523;
Lecturer D: $8,593-$15,211.
- Master s degree in culinary sciences/arts, food science, nutrition, food service, hospitality or closely related field.
- For laboratory course assignments, Bachelor s degree in culinary sciences/arts, food science, nutrition, food service, hospitality or closely related field & at least 2-3 years of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to student-centered learning and teaching; ability to collaboratively work in multidisciplinary settings.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
- Two or more years of professional experience in the food service industry.
- Teaching experience and/or doctorate.
- RD preferred.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment.
- The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
- Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before starting work. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in withdrawal of the offer.

The Food Science and Nutrition Department has 15 full-time faculty, numerous part-time faculty, support staff, and approximately 600 majors. FSN offers two majors—Nutrition and Food Science—and houses a pilot plant, labs, and internship opportunities that support student learning. The department emphasizes a Learn by Doing philosophy and provides a range of concentrations and programs described in the original description.
