The Food Science and Nutrition Department at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor of Global Nutrition. Candidates will teach, conduct research, and contribute to service for both undergraduate and graduate programs.
Teaching Responsibilities- Primary instruction in Nutrition, teaching courses within the Nutrition majors.
- Develop and teach new undergraduate and graduate courses in global nutrition.
- Supervise graduate students in the Master of Science in Nutrition program.
- Participate in team‑teaching assignments and offer graduate‑level courses in both in‑person and online formats.
- Provide Learn‑By‑Doing experiences and undergraduate research opportunities related to global nutrition and health.
- Conduct research on global/international human nutrition.
- Build a successful research program, obtain external funding, publish in peer‑reviewed journals, present at conferences, and supervise/mentor graduate students.
- Collaborate with Cal Poly researchers, the Cal Poly Center for Health Research, local healthcare organizations, and other partners.
- Travel internationally for research and student supervision as needed.
- Doctorate (PhD, DrPH, DSc, etc.) in Human Nutrition or a closely related field; ABD candidates may be considered if the degree will be awarded by appointment start.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
- Demonstrated potential to secure external funding and publish research.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, effective communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to be a productive team player.
- Commitment to student‑centered learning and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Ability to work effectively with peers, students, industry partners, and the public.
- Proficiency in written and oral English.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering inclusive environments.
- Record of excellence in teaching and research commensurate with time since degree.
- Experience collaborating with industry partners to advance teaching and scholarship.
- Productive record of teaching scholarship and student‑involved research that strengthens department activities.
- Experience or education in global/international nutrition and health.
