The Construction Management (CM) Department in the College of Architecture & Environmental Design at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, is seeking applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position to start in the 2026-27 academic year. The CM Department is a tight‑knit group of faculty and staff working to provide students with the best possible education and the help they need to succeed academically and prepare for the challenges they can expect in the professional world.

Successful candidates are expected to contribute to fostering an inclusive environment and conducting teaching and scholarly activities that cultivate diverse communities that shape the built environment.

Responsibilities
  • Teach and develop courses in the construction management program.
  • Advise students to help them attain academic and professional success.
  • Work with and mentor student organizations and competition teams.
  • Collaborate with related disciplines, industry partners, and communities.
  • Pursue professional development that includes scholarly activities.

Salary commensurate with education and experience. Anticipated hiring range: $99,996 to $110,004.

Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree in construction or a construction‑related field from an accredited institution.
  • Five years of relevant professional experience in the United States construction industry or comparable international experience.
  • Individuals with an earned doctorate in construction or a construction‑related field shall receive credit for the equivalent of two years of professional construction experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, conduct themselves professionally, and perform appropriate service functions at the department, college, and university levels.
  • Specialization in a scholarly area that addresses topics applicable to the construction industry and demonstrated ability and commitment to pursue scholarly activities.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the written and oral use of the English language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or doctoral degree in construction or a construction‑related field.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly activities that contribute to the field of construction management.
  • Professional certifications or licenses related to the construction industry.
  • Three years of relevant professional experience in project management or a supervisory capacity.
  • Experience in working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
  • A teaching specialization in areas such as industrial construction, defense/marine facilities, renewable energy systems, MEP building systems, and data centers.
Special Conditions

The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment. Following a conditional offer of employment, a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment.
