Assistant Professor in Architectural Design +

Position:
Tenure‑track Design Plus teaching position in the Architecture Department, College of Architecture & Environmental Design (CAED) at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly).
Start date: August 17, 2026.

Teaching and Research Focus
  • Design fundamentals with an emphasis on representation (drawing, image‑making, modeling, fabrication).
  • Curriculum development and inclusive learning environments for diverse undergraduate students.
  • Foundation design studios, large‑lecture courses on contemporary/historical representation, workshops, and seminars.
  • Opportunity to develop scholarship in representation, or in architectural history, theory, and criticism with emphasis on social/environmental justice, community engagement, and equity.
Required Qualifications
  • Professional degree in architecture (or allied discipline).
  • Master’s degree in architecture (or

    D. Arch.) or equivalent.
  • Architectural license or Ph.D. (position may be offered to candidates ABD with eventual licensure/Ph.D. required for promotion).
  • Professional experience in architecture and relevant college‑level teaching experience.
  • Body of work that corresponds to the advertised position.
  • Evidence or narrative of inclusive teaching practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience or scholarship addressing social and environmental equity in the built environment.
  • Specialization in scholarly areas intersecting design with issues of justice, diversity, and inclusivity.
