Cal Poly seeks a full‑time, academic‑year, tenure‑track faculty member at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026. The role focuses on teaching, research, and service within the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department of the College of Engineering.
Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate lecture courses and laboratories in civil engineering, structural engineering, and design.
- Teach graduate courses and laboratories in structural engineering, design, and areas of expertise.
- Supervise undergraduate and graduate‑level research.
- Develop and maintain externally funded research projects.
- Engage in student advising, curriculum development, and shared governance.
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in civil, structural, architectural engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered if the degree is awarded before the start of the appointment.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, effective communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong record of developing an externally funded, applied research program involving undergraduate and graduate students.
- Commitment to hands‑on, student‑centered learning and collaboration in multidisciplinary settings.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and proficiency in English.
- Demonstrated excellence in university‑level teaching and research (consistent with time since degree).
- Experience with laboratory‑based instruction and industry collaborations.
- Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
