Position: Lifeguard (2026)

Overview

This position utilizes lifeguard training skills to ensure the safety of patrons at our aquatic facilities by preventing and responding to emergencies. Availability for evenings and weekends and participation in regular in-service trainings are required. We’re looking for committed, reliable individuals to join our energetic team of lifeguards.

Hours and Training

Hours: Mandatory staff trainings are held the weekend of May 16 and 17 and the week of June 15 – June 18. If you would like to be considered for this position you must be available for training dates. All staff and lifeguard-specific training days will be scheduled every other Friday morning during the summer.

The spring/summer pool schedule is May 18 through September 7, 2026. Hours of work are Monday – Sunday, 7:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. (schedules and hours vary). Applicants must be available for shadow training shifts during spring hours. Any planned vacation must be approved by management before the summer session and a maximum of 14 days.

Position Details

Hourly wage: Lifeguard (CSS II) $17.83-$18.27 per hour

Status: Temporary Part-Time, No benefits. Applicants will be screened according to the most relevant experience for this position. Those most qualified will be invited to an individual or small group interview.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain constant surveillance of patrons in the facility; act immediately and appropriately to secure safety of patrons in the event of emergency
  • Enforce all pool rules, policies, and regulations
  • Educate patrons and inform them of the purpose and need for rules and regulations
  • Provide emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical service
  • Respond quickly to all emergency situations in the water or surrounding areas
  • Take an active role in maintaining a safe environment and take steps to prevent accidents by eliminating potentially hazardous conditions
  • Present professional appearance and attitude at all times and maintain a high standard of customer service
  • Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility
  • Complete incident and accident reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • Applicants must be 15 years of age or older
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Skill in the application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skill evaluation
  • Must possess the following American Red Cross certifications at the time of employment:
    • Lifeguard Training/First Aid/CPR/AED
    • First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22)

Physical/Sensory Requirements

This is an active position requiring the ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk frequently, lift and/or move objects up to 50 lbs.; occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 lbs.; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with children and other staff; visual acuity to oversee projects and make observations.

Work is done both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, often over 100 degrees, sun, noise, dust, and pollens. Potential for exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Slip hazards when working near water. Must be able to complete additional trainings, including but not limited to:
Concussion Training, Bloodborne Pathogens, Mandated Reporter, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Heat Illness, Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination.
