Journeyman Service Technician / Diesel Mechanic
Coast Counties Peterbilt Pac Lease
Base pay range: $50.00/hr – $60.00/hr
Position PurposeThe Service Technician diagnoses and completes repairs on customer vehicles in a professional, timely manner while ensuring quality repairs at a fair cost to the customer.
Key RelationshipsThe Service Technician reports directly to the Service management team and communicates with all relevant co‑workers regarding the daily course of duties, the completion of directives, and timely repair orders. The Service Technician works closely with colleagues to coordinate repair strategies and estimates in an effort to provide excellent customer service.
Duties and Responsibilities- Daily planning with the service team to establish repair strategies based on job priorities.
- Determine work required from the repair order.
- Diagnose vehicle in operation to verify customer’s complaint and plan repair strategy.
- Complete repairs efficiently within the time allowed.
- Perform quality repairs minimizing shop comebacks and unnecessary expense.
- Submit a complete and accurate write‑up for each repair performed.
- Road test vehicles to verify satisfactory repair (if you possess a CDL).
- Manually and electronically post time on an ongoing basis.
- Confirm that all cores are returned to parts and that warranty parts are properly tagged and stored.
- Coordinate with the parts counter as needed for parts necessary for the repair.
- Maintain a clean shop environment; dispose of trash, return tools, and store equipment properly.
- Maintain the readiness and proper working condition of shop tools, making adjustments and minor repairs as needed.
- Assist the Service Team with preparing accurate repair estimates when required.
- Update the Service Manager on current repairs in process regularly.
- Maintain current certifications.
- Work safely—do not put yourself, a customer, a fellow employee, or a vehicle in harm’s way.
- Provide and maintain a full set of hand tools and air tools.
- Leave the customer’s vehicle in the same or cleaner condition than when you started the repair; use seat covers and floor mats.
- Be punctual at the start of your shift and upon returning from lunch and breaks.
- Do not exceed two hours on diagnosis without approval from the Service Manager.
- Immediately bring any additional repairs to the attention of the Service Team.
- Always wear safety glasses when on the shop floor.
- Understand and follow federal, state, and local regulations regarding disposal of hazardous waste, OSHA, MSDA, right‑to‑know, etc.
- Conduct yourself in a professional manner reflecting the importance that the customer has in our business.
- Prioritize company, customer, and safety in all day‑to‑day activities.
