The current vacancy within the Information Technology Department will support public safety and law enforcement business applications. The Employment List generated from this recruitment may be utilized to fill future vacancies while the list remains active.
Under supervision (Information Technology Applications Analyst I) or general supervision (Information Technology Applications Analyst II), maintains, optimizes, and supports the City’s software applications; provides technical support to end-users, collaborates with vendors to enhance application functionality; manages application performance, upgrades, and enhancements; develops automation to enhancing operational efficiency; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS IT Applications Analyst IThis is the entry-level classification in the IT Applications Analyst series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and provide technical support to enhance and optimize software applications, digital transformation, and technology automation processes. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied, complex, and difficult; close supervision and frequent review of work lessen as an incumbent demonstrates skill to perform the work independently.
Positions at this level usually perform most of the duties required at the IT Applications Analyst II level but are not expected to function at the same skill level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.
Applications Analyst II
This is the fully qualified journey-level classification in the IT Applications Analyst series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the IT Applications Analyst I the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.
SUPERVISIONEXERCISED AND RECEIVED
The Information Technology Applications Analyst II exercises technical and functional supervision over lower-level professional, technical and administrative support personnel, as assigned. Receives supervision (Information Technology Applications Analyst I) or general supervision (Information Technology Applications Analyst II) from assigned management personnel. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.

Positions at the IT Applications Analyst I-level may perform some of these duties and responsibilities in a learning capacity.
- Performs routine applications, system and/or network support duties such as monitoring or adding applications/users/devices, modifying user profiles, re‑setting passwords and performing file maintenance; sets up basic user access permissions consistent with City policies and procedures; creates, records, and maintains user access and security; provides training to users regarding computer equipment and operating procedures.
- Provides and/or ensures follow up on trouble calls and tickets; corresponds with or meets customers and vendors as needed to understand and resolve concerns; monitors automated system processes; monitors logs and files for evidence of problems or system failures; and ensures business resumption after system failures.
- Performs installation and configuration duties and related data design, migration, conversion, testing, evaluation, maintenance, and extraction work; assists in designing and/or creating, implementing, and maintaining databases, database tables and database objects; develops database scripts as needed for assigned business applications, interfaces, databases, devices, and systems.
