Position: Aircraft Technician I

About Us:

Grid.aero is a VC-backed aviation startup tackling complex challenges in both defense and commercial markets. We are focused on solving real-world problems that will shape the future of the industry. Led by aerospace veterans and supported by leading venture firms, Grid is at the forefront of developing autonomous systems that will revolutionize how goods move through the skies.

Be part of a fast-growing, high-impact startup from day one. At Grid, your work will shape critical industries, driving innovation at the intersection of national security and global commerce.

Role Overview :

Grid Aero is seeking an Experimental Aircraft Technician to help build our large, fixed-wing autonomous aircraft. As an Aircraft Technician, you will join the Manufacturing team and focus on building and scaling repeatable processes to produce and integrate our all-metal autonomous aircraft. In this role, you will build and integrate aircraft, contribute DFMA feedback, and help evolve manufacturing systems as we move from prototype to scaled production in a fast-paced environment.

What

You'll Do:
  • Perform precision assembly of all-metal aircraft structures, including skins, ribs, spars, frames, and control surfaces
  • Drill, deburr, fit, and install solid and blind rivets to engineering specifications
  • Fabricate and modify metal components using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment
  • Ensure proper alignment, tolerances, and structural integrity during assembly
  • Install, route, terminate, and secure aircraft wiring harnesses and electrical components
  • Integrate avionics, sensors, actuators, power systems, and autonomous flight hardware per build documentation
  • Perform continuity checks, basic electrical testing, and system verification
  • Apply proper strain relief, shielding, grounding, and labeling practices
Who You Are:

You are a hands-on builder who takes pride in producing high-quality, precise work. You are naturally curious and motivated to understand how systems work, not just how to assemble them. You value craftsmanship and attention to detail, especially when working on safety-critical structures and systems. You are comfortable working from engineering drawings, specifications, and build instructions, and you ask questions when something doesn't look right.

You take ownership of your work and hold yourself accountable for accuracy, cleanliness, and repeatability. You are methodical, patient, and disciplined when performing precision fabrication and assembly tasks. You enjoy solving practical problems and collaborating with engineers, technicians, and production teams. You respect processes and documentation while contributing ideas to improve quality and efficiency. You understand that small details matter and that precision work directly impacts aircraft performance and reliability.

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years with hands on experience in precision mechanical or structural assembly
  • Ability to read and follow engineering drawings and work instructions
  • Experience with metal fabrication tasks such as drilling, deburring, fastening, or riveting
  • Basic familiarity with electrical wiring and connector installation
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to document work and follow controlled processes
  • Willingness to learn, ask questions, and adapt to evolving designs
Why Join Grid.aero:
  • Mission First: Tackle some of the most important national security issues of the day.
  • Ownership: Receive a significant equity stake and help build the future of Grid.aero.
  • Impact: As one of our first hires, you'll have a direct and visible impact on the success of the company.
  • Innovation: Lead the architecture of a game-changing product that will redefine the air logistics industry.
  • Growth: Work alongside experienced aerospace founders and grow with the company as a key technical leader.
