overviewthe inclusion program provides 1:1/shared staff support to campers with disabilities in all city programs. The senior inclusion leader position oversees planning, staffing, and daily operations of the inclusion program. The inclusion policy is designed to ensure compliance by the city with the americans with disabilities act of 1990 and to facilitate opportunities for participants with disabilities to engage in recreational pursuits in the most integrated setting possible.

hoursmust be available to work monday through friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. And 6:00 p.m. (schedules vary) from june through august, attend monday and tuesday evening staff meetings during the summer dates, and participate in mandatory trainings on weekends in june with additional tbd trainings.
wagescommunity services specialist iii – $17.83–18.73 per hour based upon experience
employment typetemporary part time, no benefits. Applicants are screened according to experience relevant to this position. The most qualified applicants are invited to attend individual or small group interviews.
duties- supervises, schedules, motivates, evaluates and directs team of inclusion leaders at various sites.
- oversees administrative daily tasks and operations of the inclusion program. Duties range from early morning to after camp meetings.
- balances camp site duties and administrative commitments. Site visits and inclusion support as needed.
- develops weekly staff schedules, weekly email correspondence, team oversight and instruction.
- assists with staff training presentations and volunteer education presentations during summer training.
- communicates with parents on a daily basis regarding participant behavior, daily updates and other relevant matters.
- organizes and coordinates documentation to share with related staff.
- coordinate material distribution including family correspondence and weekly email reminders.
- inclusion senior leaders will utilize and train support techniques provided by the program coordinator.
- camp visits to observe, direct team member on best practices and support plans.
- must attend and lead weekly staff meetings for inclusion.
- assist recreation leaders in behavior plans, disciplinarian decisions, parent educations.
- maintain positive communications with parents, program staff and other members of the public.
- ability and desire to advocate for individuals with disabilities to promote social inclusion within the program.
- must be 18 years or older or have education equivalent to the completion of high school.
- must have a valid california driver’s license.
- certified in cpr and standard first aid prior to the start of the summer camp program.
- ability to direct and delegate assigned tasks to subordinate staff as needed.
- ability to swim at a level considered water safe and be comfortable participating in pool activities.
- ability to demonstrate energy, enthusiasm, and creativity in the job position.
- ability to motivate and lead staff, volunteers and youth participants.
- having knowledge of recreation activities, child development, behavior management practices, staff supervision techniques, and community resources is desirable.
- ability to communicate effectively with program participants, parents and co-workers.
- must be able to complete a list of other required online trainings prior to the start of the program, including but not limited to, sports concussion and sudden cardiac arrest protocols, mandated reporter, sexual discrimination and harassment, etc.
senior leaders take an active role in shaping other staff members and leading by example. Be ready and enthusiastic to jump into various new settings each day and instruct assist in inclusion matters which are often behavior interventions and stressful scenarios. Applicants must be energetic, enthusiastic, patient and flexible. Must have experience working with children/youth/teens with disabilities in recreation settings.
