Lower School Substitute Teacher and Co-Teacher

Overview

St. Margaret’s Episcopal School is seeking caring, energetic, and developmentally attuned Lower School Substitute Teachers and Co-Teachers to support Preschool through Grade 5 classrooms. At this time, our substitute needs are focused specifically on the Lower School, where continuity of care, consistency, and strong relationships are essential to student success. This role is ideal for educators who enjoy working with young learners and who understand the importance of structure, warmth, and flexibility in early childhood and elementary classrooms.

Substitute Teachers and Co-Teachers play a vital role in maintaining a nurturing, engaging learning environment when regular faculty are absent. garet’s, we believe young children learn best in classrooms where they feel safe, known, and supported. • Support instructional activities and lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher.
• Serve as a Lower School Lead Substitute Teacher or Co-Teacher, depending on classroom needs.
• Foster a positive, structured, and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Support students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
• Assist with small-group instruction, learning centers, and classroom routines.
• Supervise students during transitions, recess, lunch, and dismissal as assigned.
• Maintain clear, calm, and respectful classroom management aligned with Lower School expectations.

• Bachelor’s degree (required for lead teaching roles; preferred for assistant or co-teaching roles).
• Some teaching or instructional experience required. Independent school teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to manage a classroom confidently and positively.
• Comfortable using technology in support of classroom instruction.
• Must reside locally and be available for on-campus assignments.
• California teaching credential (preferred for Lower School Lead Teacher substitute roles).

• Daily Rate: $185.00

  7:45am–3:30pm

This role requires mobility throughout the classroom and campus, including standing for extended periods, walking, and occasional lifting of classroom materials (up to 25 pounds). Visual and auditory acuity are necessary for active instruction and student supervision.
